A partir de la seva experiència al camp de refugiats palestins de Yarmouk, Abdallah Alkhatib entrellaça històries de vides quotidianes transformades per la fam, l’aïllament i la guerra. El seu primer llargmetratge de ficció construeix un relat coral on l’humor negre i la imaginació conviuen amb la duresa del setge. Una mirada als vincles, les contradiccions i els petits gestos amb què els seus personatges intenten preservar la seva humanitat. Premi a la millor òpera prima de la Berlinale.

In a besieged territory, a group of friends searches for shelter from the cold, two lovers try to find a moment of intimacy, and a pregnant woman struggles to survive. Drawing on his experience in the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, Abdallah Alkhatib interweaves stories of everyday lives transformed by hunger, isolation and war. His first fiction feature builds an ensemble narrative in which dark humour and imagination coexist with the harshness of the siege. A portrait of the bonds, contradictions and small gestures through which his characters strive to preserve their humanity. Winner of the Berlinale’s Best First Feature Award.

Va començar a filmar durant el setge del camp de refugiats palestins de Yarmouk, on va trobar en el cinema una eina de testimoni i memòria. Chronicles from the Siege és el seu primer llargmetratge de ficció, inspirat en la seva experiència i en les històries de les comunitats assetjades.

- Born in Damascus in 1989 and based in Germany, Abdallah Alkhatib is a filmmaker and social researcher. He began filming during the siege of the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, turning to cinema as a means of bearing witness and preserving memory. Chronicles from the Siege is his first fiction feature, drawing on his own experience and the stories of communities living under siege.
